History

Mr Noah's Nursery School
- Prospectus

Mr Noah's Nursery School is an education provision for any children from 2 to 5 years living in a wide area around Iden Green, Benenden.  We were established in 1995 and have enjoyed a fast growing reputation and popularity.  Mr Noah's offers -

1. An appropriate curriculum

In their first five years children develop at a remarkable rate physically, intellectually and emotionally.  Their natural curiosity and eagerness to learn is an opportunity not to be missed.  We aim to provide the necessary environment and experiences to stimulate and encourage this.  At Mr Noah's children learn to become more independent and self-reliant, and to socialise.  They develop their ability with language and, as they get older, particular attention is given, in consultation with the primary schools to which they will go, to pre-reading and pre-maths skills.  There is participation in music and movement, singing and percussion, painting and craft work, all appropriate to their interests and abilities, as well as daily outdoor play.  In addition to all this there are specialist afternoon clubs for French, music, cooking and science.   Proper records of each child's educational attainments and progress are kept and there is opportunity offered to the parents to see those records and consult with staff.

2. A quality provision

In our first OFSTED Inspection Report Mr Noah’s received the following comments:
"Mr Noah's Nursery School provides an outstanding standard of education. "
"The quality of teaching is excellent"

Staff -The Chairman, the Rev’d Peter Michell, is a qualified teacher (PGCE) with experience in teaching in both secondary and primary schools, including reception class. At present he leads a staff of eight.

Premises - The property, belonging to the church, is exceptionally well suited to the purposes of a nursery school.  It has had alterations and adjustments in consultation with Social Services and the Fire Services in order to provide a safe environment for the children whether they are indoors or out.  Most of the facilities were reconstructed and refurbished in 1999.

Equipment - There is an ever growing range of indoor and outdoors toys, games and equipment specifically selected for the development of children of different ages, including two computers.

3. Christian Care

Mr Noah's Nursery School is run as part of the service offered to the community by the Iden Green Congregational Church. Mr Noah is a Bible figure very familiar to children and is a reminder of God's care for and rescue of men and women.  The experience of belonging and feeling cared for is central to the approach of Mr Noah's Nursery School.

Hours

Mr Noah’s offers both sessional and full day care. We are open five week days from 9 am-12 midday and from 1-4 pm. Full day pupils and others extending their sessions by an hour at lunch time bring a packed meal with them. The only weekly exception is Thursday when we close at midday and there is a Parent & Toddlers Group from 1.30—3pm. The nursery school is open all year round with a month’s holiday in August and two weeks at Christmas and Easter, plus bank holidays.

Fees

Mr Noah’s is non-profit making and covers its running costs by charging a standard rate for a three hour session of £10.80 plus a £1 sundries charge and £3.25 for each lunch break. Normally, payment should be made per half term and in advance. Because expenses are fixed, fees are based on sessions booked, not those attended. Cheques should be made to ‘‘Mr Noah’s Nursery School’’. Where parents/guardians have financial difficulties alternative arrangements can be made by approaching the Governing Council. Mr Noah’s is registered for the Early Years free entitlement, which means that from the term after a child’s third birthday the fees payable by parents is very small.

Uniform

Children wear the Mr Noah’s sweat shirt or polo shirt. They need to have indoor shoes and, in the colder or wet weather, a coat and Wellington boots. All articles brought should be clearly named and carried in the Mr Noah’s shoe bag one of which is supplied to each child free of charge.

Parental involvement

We welcome parents to help at sessions voluntarily, but there is no obligation do so at all. We do encourage parents to view records and to confer daily with children’s key persons.
